Itinerary

Friday

Arrive Charleville 11.50am and meet Graham and Deb to begin your adventure to the Outback. Enjoy lunch at Charleville Airport and a scenic flight with Pete over Charleville. This afternoon visit historic Hotel Corones for a very informative tour with Karl before we go to the multi million dollar Cosmos Centre for a totally unique galactic experience.

Train to the Australian Outback - the Westlander Train
Arriving in Charleville via the
Westlander Train from Brisbane.
Dinner at the RSL before returning to the Cosmos Centre for the Night Sky Show in the Observatory. Overnight accommodation at the Warrego Motel.

Saturday

After breakfast, we'll depart Charleville and travel west to Quilpie opal country. This most colourful semi-precious stone is Australia's national gemstone and the Quilpie mining district is the largest producer of boulder opal in the world. Whilst in Quilpie we will have a town tour and lunch and then continue onto Windorah for our overnight accommodation.

Sunday

Following breakfast, depart and travel to Windorah. The town of Windorah lies alongside famous Cooper Creek in channel country and is surrounded by scenic countryside, picturesque ruins and spectacular red sandhills.
Whilst in Windorah, enjoy smoko at the Visitor Information Centre and a look around before we head to Birdsville with lunch enroute.

Arrive in Birdsville late this afternoon, famous for its annual outback horse race meeting and the Birdsville Hotel. 2 nights at the Birdsville Hotel/Motel.

Monday

After breakfast we will visit the Birdsville Working Museum run by John Menzies. Take a walk down memory lane, with many unusual items on show in working order. We"ll do a tour of this little town including the famous Birdsville Racetrack. Enjoy lunch before some free time to visit the Wirrari Information Centre or perhaps chat to a local over a cold drink in the Birdsville Hotel!

Late this afternoon enjoy chardonnay and nibbles at a secret location before dinner this evening at Caravanserai Cafe in the Blue Poles Gallery.
Wolfgang is the local resident artist and you will be able to wander through the gallery and see his stunning watercolours of the Simpson Desert and channel country.

Tuesday

Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be an explorer? Following an early breakfast it's off to Innamincka via scenic Cordillo Downs. Although a little rough in places, there is a surprise around almost every corner!
Late this afternoon, arrive in Innamincka, South Australia. Innamincka is one of the most remote tourist facilities in the world and is rich with history of early Australian explorers, most notably Burke & Wills. 2 nights at the Innamincka Hotel/Motel.

Wednesday

Highlights of your visit to Innamincka will include Burke's Grave, Kings Marker where you will hear the Burke and Wills Story, the Australian Inland Mission Building, Innamincka Trading Post, Innamincka Racetrack and the Hot Dry Rock Project. See Cooper Creek, which has an incredible amount of birdlife and natural beauty while we enjoy sunset chardonnay and nibbles.

Thursday

After an early departure from Innamincka, travel through Nappa Merrie Station and over the Burke and Wills Bridge where we will visit Australia's most famous coolibah tree - the Burke and Wills Dig Tree.
This Coolibah tree is believed to be over 200 years old and still has the three blazes on the trunk put there over 140 years ago by the base camp party that Burke and Wills missed by 6 hours.
Breakfast will be served at this historic location. Continue heading east crossing over the massive flood plain of Cooper Creek and passing by Jackson Oil Field, Australia's largest onshore oilfield before lunch at historic Noccundra Hotel.

After lunch we will continue on over the Gray Range and through the Dingo Barrier Fence to Thargomindah for our overnight stay at the Oasis Motel/Explorers Caravan Park.

Friday

After a short tour of Thargomindah we travel east to Cunnamulla via the unique town of Eulo.
Visit the Date Farm to taste fresh dates and sample the unique date wine before cappuccino and cake outside the famous Eulo Store.

There will be time to look through the store and stroll down the road to browse through the Eulo Bilby Burrow and see some of the local arts and crafts.

Travel onto Cunnamulla for a look around before lunch at one of the local pubs. Then its time to say goodbye as you board the rail coach for transfer to Charleville where you head back home and onto your next adventure!
